| Ridge Runner III is
not a full two place. It has a small jump seat or cargo
area. | Stace Schrader of
Rocky Mountain Wings was at Airventure with his latest model the
Ridge Runner Model III. The Model III is offered with a rear jump
seat and is available with single or dual controls.
The unit on display was the first of an optional "nose dragger"
or tricycle gear configuration rather than the conventional tail
dragger version that Rocky Mountain Wings has produced in the
past.
The Ridge Runner III tricycle gear is also the first Rocky
Mountain Wings craft to be powered by the 80 HP four cylinder Jabiru
air-cooled model 2200 aircraft engine.
The engine now has about 75 hours of trouble free flying on it.
The engine provides a cruise of about 90 mph and a climb rate of
close to 1,000 feet per minute. Fuel consumption at cruise is
approximately 3 gallons per hour.
One of the main advantages of the craft over the tail dragger
version is the visibility while taxiing, taking off and
landing. Controls are standard stick and rudder with left hand
throttle.
The Ridge Runner III also has folding wings. For more information
