According to Leonard a "large friend" approached
him to build a plane for him, the result was the Double Eagle. The
Double Eagle has a 20 foot larger wing, which has been stressed to 4
g's., has larger diameter struts and spars and uses a 4 cylinder,
1835 cc, 60 hp Volkswagen engine.
The craft is 40 inches wide comes with dual
controls, has an empty weight of 385 lbs a gross of 900 lbs giving
it a useful load of 515 lbs.
Leonard offers plans for the plane for $75.00. For
that you get 85 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. He also offers 5
building videos at $25.00 each, or $200 for plans and the videos.
These take you through the complete building process. It is
estimated the plane should take about 500 hours to build from plans
and cost in the neighborhood of $5,000 to $7,000 to build.
As of August 2003, there is only one Double Eagle
flying - two more are under construction.
