Rod began designing and building his Mifyter in 1986 - with his wife
contributing to the cause by buying him a brand new 532 65 hp Rotax
engine. The plane features a welded 4130 steel fuselage and tail section,
covered in standard fabric covering
The wings are built using the same construction as that found in the
venerable Kitfox and Avid Flyer.
Standard aircraft stick and rudder controls are used, with push pull
tubes for ailerons and elevator and cables for rudder.
The plane can be powered by engines up to the same horsepower and
weight as a Rotax 532/582. With this power take off distances are about
100 feet, climb rate is over 1,000 feet per minute, cruise comes in at
around 75 mph.
Rod decided he was "too young to retire" after retirement and has
decided to offer kits to the public, with his first kit ready to ship
sitting in the booth at the show. The kit comes complete with
everything need to finish it except engine and prop and should take
between 650 and 1200 hours to build.
