The original Flying Boat by Polaris Motor was first produced in 1985.
Since that time over 1300 units have been sold world wide with over 500 of
these currently flying in the U.S.
At Sun N Fun 2003 Flying Boat
Adventures the U.S. distributor for the Flying Boat had the first
production Amphibious Flying Boat on display. The retract system is a two
stage system, the main rear wheels go up as you let the water rudders down
and vice versa. The nose wheels is retracted separately.
The craft comes from the dealer ready to fly with the engine broken in.
Standard power in the U.S. is the 582 Rotax of 65 hp. With 582 and either
the 19 or 21 meter wing the plane is airborne in under 200 feet of land or
water, climbs out at over 700 feet per minute and cruises along in the 55
to 65 mph range.
The Flying Boat is set up for salt water operations with many of it
components made from stainless steel, all of the aluminum tubing anodized
and any areas subject to constant salt water coated with materials to help
prevent corrosion.
The boat can also be detached from the wind and made into an airboat
that can hit speeds over 35 mph.
